About Us

How We Started:

Central Oregon Volleyball Club was started in 2018, by Heidi Wood when one of her daughters was still in high school. Looking at the various club options, Heidi was determined to create a club that was not only highly competitive, but also accessible and affordable so that everyone was able to play. Once a scholarship kid herself who was not able to finish out her sport due to financial reasons, Heidi has continued to root this club in its initial philosophy: If you WANT to play, that is reason enough alone.

Who is Heidi Wood:

Heidi is a long time successful coach in Central Oregon who has coached for almost two decades. She helped with starting many of the most accomplished volleyball players in all of Central Oregon.  Many girls have thrived and achieved huge success including college scholarships, recruitment offers, confidence, and truly experienced the meaning of team sports under Heidi's coaching.  She prioritizes fundamentals, mental toughness and competitive drive. Above all else, Heidi is "team" driven. One great player cannot win a game, but six players who trust each other can.

Who is Mailee Utu:

Mailee has been coaching for COVC going on eight years now. A couple of years ago, Heidi Wood approached Mailee with the idea of co-directing, knowing that eventually she may have to retire. Mailee has coached competitive travel volleyball, and is the current Mountain View Head Coach in Bend, currently leading them through one of their most successful seasons in years. She played for over a decade of competitive volleyball as a setter right here in Bend, and loves the game. Also a scholarship kid herself while growing up, Mailee is committed to upholding COVC's priorities and philosophies. Many of her previous and current players are signed/playing at the collegiate level or are in the midst of talking to schools of their choice! Mailee prioritizes confidence, strong fundamentals and competitiveness with all her teams.

We promote consistency through all levels of our club, focusing on the fundamentals of the sport at every level. We teach good volleyball habits and how to play together as a team. On and off the court, players will learn great leadership skills and how to be a vital part of their team.

We strive for team success, and our priority is developing the skills each player needs to be an integral part of that. Hard work, players that are eager to learn, and good coaching are a true recipe for success.
